Biography

Mirabella Smith is a first-year graduate student interested in political theory. Their research lies at the intersection of queer and political theory, and they cite Butler and Foucault as two of their major scholarly influences. Smith’s past work has explored how performance and subjectivity constitute the identity of the gendered political officeholder. Before pursuing a Ph.D. at Brown, Smith graduated from Princeton University, where they received a bachelor’s degree in Politics with certificates in Gender and Sexuality Studies and Values and Public Life, and were awarded the John G. Buchanan Prize in Politics and the Huffman Senior Thesis Prize in Gender and Sexuality Studies. They are also a recipient of the Beinecke Scholarship.
