Political Science

Ian is a fourth year Ph.D. candidate studying political theory. He received his B.A. from Stanford University and J.D. from UCLA, graduating as a member of the Order of the Coif. He is also pursuing a secondary MA in Anthropology through the Open Graduate Education program at Brown. His dissertation juxtaposes theories of consent in the Western canon with protocols of consensus used by participatory social movements. He is currently engaged in an ethnographic study of consent discourses among restorative justice practitioners. More broadly, Ian is interested in democratic theory, legal philosophy, anarchism, and ethnographic methods.
